In 2005 when I started this little paper goods company I gave a lot of thought to what I wanted to offer and what style I wanted Letter C design to represent. My offerings and designs are constantly changing and growing all the time, but everything I create first begins from the same vision…clean, simple design with a touch of whimsy and made distinctly with hands-on craftsmanship, using only quality materials.

All products from Letter C design serve a purpose – whether it is to send a thank you note, add some uniqueness to envelopes with a fun address label or as a useful place to record your thoughts and ideas. My Form over Function approach started when I was at the University of Minnesota studying architecture. I designed with that same design philosophy while got my Masters of Art in Information Design and I still use the same approach to every project I start.

Just as much as I like each product to serve a function, I don’t like waste. Almost all of my paper and envelopes are made with recycled paper or made from FSC certified paper. Nearly everything from Letter C design is from recycled, reused or biodegradable materials, including the packaging. Even my labels are made from recycled paper.

Working with all this paper, I have lots of bits and pieces left over. I try to incorporate as many of my end pieces and test prints into products. If I can’t think of a clever and useful way to use it, I give it to charity or it goes into the recycle bin (or craft box as my nieces and nephews like to call it). If you look around, I have many pieces of artwork in my studio from my nieces and nephews have given a second life.

I am always creating something – in and out of the studio. I have lots of my notebooks and journals filled with my doodles, lists and ideas. I always have one with me – when I am cooking up new dishes for family and friends, helping to throw parties or dreaming of my next trip to somewhere cold and snowy. My favorite part of every order I work on is packaging it up (usually with a little something extra) and hoping that whoever receives it is just as happy to use it as I was making it.
