a collaborative art project

when school starts I don’t get to spend too much time with my nieces and nephew, but this weekend the little one slept over. between going to soccer games and making pancakes we made this collaborative art project. it was a fun way to work together and now we both have a print as a reminder of the weekend.

it is simple and easy to do. all you need is some paper, a pencil, paint and google (to help find an animals that start with i and y). she would draw one letter/animal and then i would do the next. after we had all the letters drawn she painted my animals and i painted hers. after everything was created we scanned it in and added the names.

she made sure to sign and date it … she was even nice enough to give me a little credit too.

weekly worktable

here’s what has been happening around the studio the past week or so. school started this week for my nieces and nephew and before the first day they spent some time here with me in the studio.

after creating our own dotted tissue paper my niece made a hanging puff ball to go in her and her sister’s newly decorated purple and green room.

while making the puff ball, my other niece opened up her own stationery store. for $1.50 i was able to get a card and a hand cut letter “c”. (in the past things were free, but i am making sure she is putting value on her time – even if i never get my cut for the supplies). look at that cute packaging – if elementary school doesn’t work out for her maybe there is a place here at letter C.

somewhere along the line i have lovingly been given the nick name aunty chinese food. it seems whenever someone in the family wants some chinese food they come here and we order too much and than gather around the conference room table.

the last two calendars for 2013 were finally finished and now available here.

lots of calendars and other goodies have been shipping out.

letter C on film

i was reading this post about packaging on etsy and noticed a video by april from flourish cafe. she has purchased some labels from me a few times in the past, so i had to watch it.

if you look closely you’ll see some ticking return address labels and some of the mini hearts. the wasabi tape and all of her little packing touches are so clever – even her nails match her branding!

2013 weekly & pocket planner now available

2013 weekly and pocket planners are now available in my shop. last year i introduced the weekly planner. i didn’t think i would sell many, but it turns out it was the most popular calendar that i offered. the planner has a page per week. each day has enough space for appointments, lists or project notes and a few lined pages in the back for notes you want to keep all year.

this year there is a smaller pocket size monthly planner to choose from. if you prefer to keep your calendar with paper & pencil it’s a great choice to carry with you since it’s only 4.25″ x 5.75″.

you can get all of the letter C calendars here.

weekly worktable

a lot of making has been going on here the last couple of weeks.
here’s a peek at what’s been happening.

the hot stamping machine has been getting lots of use

lots of heart in a jar stickers are being sent out

the arrow design is the new top choice for planners

a little package for a friend in chicago who started a new job

moved cards for another friend and a few sets of address labels ready to ship

and a little birthday gift for my father

five things – simple summer soup

every year a large garden is planted at my parents house. this year the plants went in a little too late and most things are not growing very well. except the zucchini. the zucchini will always grow. this soup is an easy way to use up all of that zucchini. it’s great for lunch now. and freezes well for lunch later. and you only need five things to make it.

one zucchini
two hot peppers (or not hot – whatever you like)
three onions
four salt
five blender

simply cut all of the veggies into chunks and place in a pot with just enough water to cover them. cook until tender. blend everything together in a blender or food processor. before you blend feel free to add some fresh herbs if you want. that’s it. the soup is tasty on it’s own or you can add salsa, sour cream, croutons or whatever else you would like before serving.

good things are about to happen

it has officially become calendar season here at letter C. today the academic planners have started shipping – all packed up with their extra little goodies. every year i look forward to seeing which cover is going to be the most popular – so far the dolly cover is easily the front runner, but that will change a few times before the end of the year. all my calendars, including the 2012 – 2013 academic planner, are available here.

five things – sleepover

i think it is officially the summer of sleepovers. since school has been out once or twice a week either one, two or three of my sisters kids are sleeping over. here’s what it takes for a sleepover at this auntie’s house.

one: a tent. this tent is pretty much always set up in my spare room. the tent has travelled all over northern america but is now serving as the sleepover spot of choice for my nieces.

two: itunes. for the girls it is marathon episodes of punky brewster. it was one of my favorite shows as a kid, so i am glad they are enjoying it now. for the boy it is psych – one of my favorite shows now. i’m a good influence on these kids.

three: a snack. usually i don’t have much food in my house, but i am known for making something out of nothing. this time it was leftover cream from my nieces ice cream cake. i whipped it up with a little bit of sugar and crushed in some cookies (also leftover from the cake) and then froze it a bit.

four: cards. when i was a kid my grandmother and i would play cards, so i am glad i am keeping the tradition alive. the middle one and i have a running rummy score going.

five: pancakes. i swear these are the only reason the kids even sleep at my house. this batch had some raspberries and chocolate thrown in since i was out of syrup.

a sweet diy wedding

if you ask me if i do wedding invitations my answer will be “no”. that’s my story, but i must not be sticking to it because i am always working on a wedding or two. i clearly must easily be convinced.

so, i while back when i received an email from alaina about working with her on some wedding invitations i had to say yes. she had been ordering address labels from me for years and was always so sweet. she knew exactly what she wanted for her invites and sent me some sketches she had drawn out. she mailed me some fabric that i scanned in and used for the buntings on the invitation and throughout the other pieces. her mother-in-law made real bunting from the same fabric for wedding decorations. and her sister made super cute bunting/flag place cards — i love when a theme comes together. i think her wedding invitations and all the extras i worked on with her has been my favorite so far. you can see photos from her really sweet and lovely diy wedding on style me pretty here. you can see the cute little favor bags and stickers i helped out with.

five things – road trippen

it has been awhile since i have been on a road trip. lately every now and then when i am driving to work and the top is off my jeep i think about just driving by and going on a mini road trip. you don’t need much on a spur of the moment road trip, but here are the five things i would take with me (along with an iPhone for photos and some sunscreen).

1. a reusable bag for any finds

2. a sigg water bottle

3. sunglasses

4. twist bands to try and keep my hair under control

5. beach hair spray because no matter what i do my hair will get out of control
